Upgrading Flat Panelled Doors Using Coating System

INTRODUCTION

The thickness of the rails and stiles must be at least 30mm and the panels should be at least 10mm thick to be upgraded with Envirograf HW02 Clear system or HW01 Paint system.

For doors with flat panels less than 10mm thick, use Envirograf Product 38 carded or veneered Intumescent material.

The above refers to solid wooden doors; hollow doors cannot be upgraded.

PREPARATION

Before coating ensure surface is sound, clean, dry and free from dirt, grease etc. Sand down to provide a key. Dust down.

PAINTED DOORS

On previously coated doors apply 1 coat of HWAP Adhesion primer clear at 12 m2 per litre.

Apply 2 coats of HW01 White Intumescent coating at 8 m2 per litre, per coat.

Apply 1 or 2 coats WBI Protective Topcoat (matt, satin or gloss) in white or selected colour at 10 m2 per litre, per coat.

VARNISHED DOORS

On previously coated doors apply 1 coat of HWAP Adhesion primer at 12 m2 per litre.

On bare oak apply 1 coat ES/VFR/P Primer prior to the application of HW02.

Apply 2 coats of HW02 Clear Intumescent coating at 8 m2 per litre, per coat.

Apply 1 or 2 coats of WBI Clear Protective Topcoat (matt, satin or gloss) at 12 m2 per litre, per coat.

NOTES

All Fire Doors must be fitted with Intumescent seals.

Envirograf Product 100 - Fire & Smoke Seals for rebated doors.

Envirograf Product 69 - Surface Mounted Fire & Smoke Seals for around the frames (No routing necessary).

Envirograf Product 71 - Door locks, hinges etc must be fitted with Intumescent Hinge, Lock and Closer protection

The above method will upgrade suitable doors to 30 minute fire rating to achieve compliance with BS476 Part22.
